Wray Named Federal Security Director
A very reliable source tells me that former Greensboro Police Chief David Wray has been named the new Federal Security Director for the Transportation Security Administration in Eastern Tennessee.
This federal position will put Wray in charge of transportation security for nearly half the state of Tennessee.
This is a big promotion to a federal position from Wray’s previous job as police chief. This begs the question- if the Feds vetted Wray and found him to be worthy of such an important position, can you really trust Mitch Johnson after all?
Make no mistake, Wray had to be thoroughly investigated before being named to this new position. FBI background checks, etc. Despite all the claims of Mitch Johnson, Wray gets the gig. This seems to be more evidence of exoneration at the highest levels and bad news for Johnson. Nothing Johnson has claimed has been proven true. Every theory has fallen like dominoes. Now the Feds come along and say “David Wray is alright by us”. So much so that they offer him a position of high authority.
Greensboro’s loss is the Feds gain. It’s too bad we are still stuck with Mitch Johnson who has yet been forced to reckon with his accusations against Wray and the lack of evidence to support them. Wray has landed on his feet. I question whether Johnson will after he is eventually forced out. He should have quit while he was ahead, put in applications elsewhere, and left Greensboro before the chickens come home to roost. Once he is fired, he will be damaged goods and he doesn’t have the resume that David Wray does.
Ah, but arrogance still blinds him to his fate.
UPDATE:
N&R reports on this story:
“As Federal Security Director, he is the top person in the area (for TSA),” said Sari Koshetz, a TSA spokeswoman.
“Federal Security Directors are entrusted in making sure all of the airports have a federally compliant security plan. The (position) is also over air, land and sea security for the federal government.”
Koshetz could said Wray commands all transportation officers, inspectors and anyone else working for TSA in the area, but could not say how many employees he oversees.”
UPDATE 2:
Cone, Guarino, Meblogin, Wilkins, Dr. J. , Ben & Billy chime in.

The city of Greensboro still needs to undo the injustice that was done to David Wray and make him whole again. A good start would be awarding him the mementos of his honorable service that he carried his entire career. Not doing this is just plain classless !
“Not doing this is just plain classless !”
Showing “class” is not in the nature of the wheelers and dealers of the “Business as Usual” crowd.
Aw, come on…who ya gonna trust, Mitch Johnson or your lying’ eyes??
I invite you to read an article about David Wray that the Rhinoceros Times was kind enough to print in today’s edition. Not surprisingly, the News & Record chose not to run this same article. David Wray has many fine qualities, and I hope the article did him a small amount of justice.
To better understand David’s new position in the federal government, former police chiefs from Atlanta and Philadelphia hold similar positions. My sincere best wishes go out to Wray as he pursues a new law enforcement career.
I read that Bill. Good work.
The News-Record? Speaking of classless……..
